0

This "secret" reset method has saved me $200.

Hacking the toner counter of Brother HL3070 / HL-4570cdw/ Brother HL-4150CDN by simply open cartridge door and then press both "cancel" and "secure" buttons simultaneously. This will take you to a hidden menu where you will find 3 counters for each of the 4 toners. That will be 12 counters in all. Reset each one and you are back in business.

Concerning this unit has stopped printing four times, telling you that youve burned through three magenta toner cartridges. Each time I used this "secret" reset method and fixed it. Im still on the original magenta cartridge.

Instruction.

1. Open Cover where you access toner cartridges
2. Press CANCEL & SECURE PRINT buttons at one time and youll see the toner menus on screen
3. Press + or - to navigate through to the toners you need to reset. Hit "Y" to reset the toner. Scroll through and repeat for each toner color as necessary.
4. Hit OK button when prompted. Reset menu for the durable parts counters:

1. Open cover where you access toners
2. Press GO and + button at once, youll see menu come up displaying reset counters for drum, fuser, etc.

A greener Demo means good news for toner based printing copying

Dan Terdiman (GreeterDan) of CNET has a piece (see "In search of a greener conference (and products)") on the new, greener Demo conference including a Tweeter photo (see above) of the conference documentation.

This year, the commercially-printed, often stylish and artful program guide has been replaced with "basic black" -- functional monochrome output (stapled but NOT duplexed) either laser printed or copied (though we know that distinction is disappearing, and I will be following up on the output device). This is the kind of evolution that printer companies like HP (NYSE HPQ) are targeting for growing or at least maintaining pages printed, with traditional typeset jobs moving in-house to office printers and MFPs. And as Terdiman points out, its part of a green movement as well, because those old bound conference guides, as elegant as they were, most likely hit the dumpster in the days or weeks following the conference.

And the other side of that evolution (or more accurately the next stage of the continuum)? The attendee list, which was in recent years an office-printed and -stapled multi-page inclusion in the conference attendee bag, has now migrated to a Web-only existence, as the Demo Website continues to grow and broaden in its capabilities.

One year old and growing Congrats Greg Walters and The Death of the Copier

0

Just a congratulatory note to recognize my blogging colleague and friend Greg Walters. Hes passed his one-year anniversary with The Death of the Copier blog.

Walters has a thoughtful post (see "Death Of The Copier a Year Later: When does a Blog stop being a Blog?") reflecting on the year, and his blogs growth as an important voice in our industry.

Best wishes to Greg Walters and The Death of the Copier, with my encouragement to keep up the good commentary, sense of humor, and that occasional hint of irreverence! And as always I appreciate your encouragement, active readership and commentary on my blog!

New blog Goin Mobile!

0

I am thrilled to announce that my new blog has gone live, at The Imaging Channel! "Goin Mobile" will focus on solutions, trends and opportunities, in the mobile space, which are relevant to (what else?) Printing and Imaging.

I will continue as Senior Contributor on the Future of Printing for the Photizo Group, as well as blogging here (at least monthly) at Jim Lyons Observations. But I am delighted with the opportunity to be over with the great team at The Imaging Channel and focused on the very exciting world of mobile!
